Musings and autobiographical reflections by our Joe Shamer
July 4th and Memorial Day always brings a feeling of pride to me because of my Dad who was a prisoner of war in WWII. It also reminds me of all those who fought so very hard to defend this country we pledge allegiance to. There has always been some form of fight that this nation has sent our troops all over this world for freedom and the rights of human life. On July Fourth, this country was defending our shores for our freedoms that we live by today. Freedom to love our way of life in the way the Constitution of the United States of America was written. This Fourth of July has our great nation in turmoil over the belief this country was founded on. Freedom to worship the way we wish and for most, that is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We have been struck by terrorism on September 11, 2001 and have gone to so many foreign countries to eliminate as many that were responsible for this tragedy that took the lives of Fathers, Mothers, Children, People from other countries as well as the lives of our brave Fire Fighters and Police Officers.
I have served during the Vietnam War and would do it all over again if I was needed, and I am sure there are so many Vets as myself who gave their all because we were proud to help all people to have a better life.
The Fourth of July means so many different things to so many people and the days off are spent at cookouts and fireworks. The love of this GREAT NATION we call America, Home of the Brave, because of The Brave who gave their Lives for all of us and the life we share with our loved ones.
God Bless America, our Stars and Stripes and our Freedoms because of July 4TH and Memorial Day.
